Digitisation, connectivity as well as new and mature technologies lead to major changes across the entire industrial value chain. Industry 4.0 is achieved by an innovative combination of new and old technologies. More efficiency and new business models are considered to be revolutionary. An advantage over the competition is time-sensitive. But surveys show that many SMEs are hesitant with the introduction of Industry 4.0 because cost-benefit ratios are unclear.

An individual implementation strategy for the company with a long-term roadmap provides clarity. Such a roadmap gradually increases the company’s digital potential, minimises entrepreneurial risk and allows for organisational learning. Thomas Korne from the Institute for Production and Logistics Systems Saarbrücken will present a model, with which companies can recognise the potentials of Industry 4.0 and raise them with a company-driven roadmap. In addition to the potentials, prerequisites are also assessed in the fields of human, technology and organisation and are taken into account in the design of a roadmap.

This FEDIL event will host several high-profile presentations on « How to start with Industry 4.0 in SMEs », where research, concepts and concrete projects of Industry 4.0 are presented on the 24th of November in the Chambre de Commerce in Luxembourg. Current implementation examples of the digital transformation of Husky Injection Moldings and Goodyear give an impression of possible measures and the benefits of integration. Finally, suitable funding opportunities for small and medium-sized companies in Luxembourg will be presented. The integration of industry 4.0 is not a simple process. It is about changes that create resistance. These must be dealt with by coherent concepts.

In addition, there is opportunity to register for a company’s free Quick-Check I4.0 (limited to 10 companies). These Quick-Checks are offered by the Institute for Production and Logistics Systems upon appointment.

TARGET AUDIENCE: decision-makers and managing directors of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) who want to start exploring the potential benefits of industry 4.0 in their company.
